Bio
이우준은 2000년 대한민국에서 태어났다. 사진을 중심으로 사운드, 텍스트를 사용하며, 개인이 하나의 풍경을 지각하게 되는 과정과 그 조건을 탐구한다. 그는 풍경을 눈앞에 고정되어 존재하는 장면이 아니라, 과거의 경험과 기억, 현재의 감각, 이동과 거리, 빛과 습도와 같은 환경적 조건이 서로 중첩되며 형성되는 것으로 바라보고 이를 ‘관념적 풍경(Illusionary Landscape)’이라 부른다.
그의 작업은 자신을 둘러싼 환경을 관찰하고 감각하는 데서 출발한다. 서로 다른 시간과 장소에서 축적된 이미지와 감각을 다시 선택하고 배열하며, 과거의 경험이 현재의 시선에 어떻게 개입하는지를 살핀다. 이를 통해 물리적으로 존재하는 장소와 개인에게 지각되는 풍경 사이의 간극, 그리고 하나의 풍경이 기억과 경험을 통해 지속적으로 재구성되는 과정을 탐구한다.
이우준은 국내외에서 다수의 개인전과 그룹전에 참여해왔다. 2025년 충주문화관광재단의 레지던시를 거쳤으며, 이후 멕시코 몬테레이의 MORA 레지던시에 참여해 현지에서 작업과 전시를 이어갔다. 서로 다른 환경에서의 체류와 이동은 장소의 물리적 조건과 개인이 지니고 온 감각 사이의 관계를 살피는 그의 작업을 확장하는 계기가 되었다.
Woojun Lee was born in South Korea in 2000. Working primarily with photography alongside sound, and text, he explores the processes and conditions through which an individual comes to perceive a landscape. Rather than understanding landscape as a fixed scene existing before the eyes, Lee considers it something formed through the overlapping of past experiences and memories, present sensations, movement and distance, and environmental conditions such as light and humidity. He refers to this perceptual world as an “Illusionary Landscape.”
His practice begins with observing and sensing the environments that surround him. By selecting and rearranging images and sensations accumulated across different times and places, he examines how past experiences intervene in the present act of seeing. Through this process, Lee explores the gap between a place as it physically exists and the landscape as it is individually perceived, as well as the ways in which landscape is continually reconstructed through memory and experience.
Lee has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions in South Korea and internationally. In 2025, he took part in an residency organised by the Chungju Cultural and Tourism Foundation, followed by residency at MORA in Monterrey, Mexico, where he continued to develop and present his work. Living and working across different environments has further expanded his investigation into the relationship between the physical conditions of a place and the sensations an individual carries into it.
